In the Central North Island, you will find Rotorua, home to a living Maori village and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, with traditional wood carving and weaving schools. The beautiful Lake Taupō which was created nearly two thousand years ago by a volcanic eruption so big it darkened the skies in Europe and China. Just north of Taupō you will find the magnificent Huka Falls, where more than 220,000 litres of water thunder over the cliff face every second. Just to the South the town of Turangi has the largest natural trout fishery in the world; it also provides a convenient base for exploring Tongariro National Park, where you can hike the Tongariro Crossing, which is often rated as one of the world's best single-day wilderness walks.

Heading East, explore Hawkes Bays warm, temperate climate combined with fertile soils which make it New Zealand’s leading producer of full-bodied red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.  They also produce a stunning Chardonnay. The Hawke's Bay is the oldest wine region in New Zealand with 30+ cellar doors, numerous artisan producers, connected by 200km of flat, easy riding cycle trails. You can also discover Napier, the art deco capital of New Zealand.

In the lower North Island Martinborough is home to over 20 wineries, most within cycling and walking distance of the quaint village square, packed with colonial charm. The predominately family-owned vineyards produce some of New Zealand’s best Pinot Noirs.  The Wairarapa region, located near Wellington is one of the most accessible dark sky destinations in the world.

Wellington is New Zealand’s Capital city and boasts and eclectic mix of culture, history, nature and cuisine. Te Papa Museum on Wellingtons waterfront is one of the best interactive museums in the world and Weta Studios showcases exhibits of props for "Lord of the Rings" & other films.
