The tour begins with a drive through Santiago’s main avenue, Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins. On the way you will see many of the cities stately historic buildings and will visit Santa Lucia hill, where Santiago was founded in 1541. Visit the Constitution square and see “La Moneda palace” (government palace) before taking a stroll along the pedestrian walkway Ahumada, which concentrates Santiago’s major commercial activity, and leads us to the Plaza de Armas (main square), around which the city was originally platted. Appreciate Santiago’s Cathedral, the Central Post Office and Santiago’s Municipality. Afterwards, cross the Mapocho River to Bellavista, Santiago’s bohemian quarters, with its colorful artistic and cultural activities, as well as busy nightlife, and get a glimpse of the attractive architecture of the Central Market, Mapocho station, Parque Forestal (Forestal Park) and the Fine Arts museum. Then, drive up to San Cristóbal hill to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city. At Parque Metropolitano (Metropolitan Park), our last stop, walk up to the statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception (courtesy of the French government) to get an outstanding view of Santiago. Afterwards, descend to the districts of Providencia, Vitacura and Las Condes, the areas that reflect Santiago’s growth and modernization.
In the afternoon enjoy a visit to the Concha y Toro vineyard with wine tasting included.
You will head out of the city towards the locality of Pirque, bordering the Maipo Valley, a zone that stands out because it contains many of the most traditional vineyards in Chile, and that is, because of its characteristics, the ideal zone for the production of the most elegant red wines. Concha y Toro Vineyard, was founded by Marques de Casa Concha in 1883. Nowadays the vineyard has more than 750 hectares of vineyards in different areas of the region elaborating noble Chilean wines of French vine stock as the Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and others. Enjoy a tour to the park, vineyards and fermenting room followed by some time for wine tasting.
