Argentina - Wine, Dine & Dance
With Estancia Los Potreros
Things you'll see
Day 1-3.
Our tour begins in Buenos Aires, one of the world’s greatest cities. A place of elegance and seduction, where a distinctively Latin culture intertwines with indigenous peoples, gauchos, and hot blooded 'porteños' (local inhabitants of B.A.), as well a very obvious European influence. Buenos Aires has grand baroque buildings to rival Paris, theatres and cinemas to rival London, and restaurants, shops and bars to rival New York. But the atmosphere is uniquely Argentine, from the steak sizzling on your plate in a crowded Parrilla to the tango being danced in the streets. The city seethes with life and history. On our first evening we will enjoy a dinner & tango show at one of Buenos Aires best Tango houses. Enjoy fine wines & fabulous cuisine while you enjoy the passion and charm of tango. We will also enjoy a tour of the city including the grand Casa Rosada (government house) where Perón addressed his people in Plaza de Mayo, the colourful port area of La Boca and the cemetery in Recoleta where Evita is buried amid many notable Argentines.
Day 4 – 7.
Estancia Los Potreros is set in a beautiful reserve at the top of the Cordoba hills in the centre of Argentina. The estancia dates from 1574 when breeding mules for the silver mines in Peru was the principal activity. Today it is an idyllic retreat for horsemen and nature lovers. This organic working farm breeds Aberdeen-Angus cattle and Paso Peruano horses. It has been in the same Anglo Argentine family for four generations and sets the highest standards of accommodation, combining the pleasures of estancia life with exceptional riding. Horse riding, polo, assisting the gauchos with horses or simply relaxing by the pool are some of the many activities available. Los Potreros is a year round destination known for its fabulous horses. "The adventure allows you to experience the best traditions of Argentina while not abandoning all creature comforts."
Day 8 – 11.
We arrive to Mendoza. Well known for its Malbec wines and for being the cradle of the heroic deeds of Liberator General San Martín, father of the nation, Mendoza is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in Argentina. Here we will take time to visit Mendoza itself and also to explore the surrounding wine valleys before we head west across the Andes and into Chile. On the way we will enjoy some hiking in the foothills of the Andes near Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Andes (6962 m.a.s.l).
Day 12 – 14.
Our tour concludes in Santiago, Chile’s capital city that lies between the Andes Mountain range to the west and the ancient coastal range to the west. We will spend some time exploring the city before heading south into the Maipo Valley where we will visit the vineyards of Concha y Toro, Argentina’s largest wine exporter. One of the main attractions at the Pirque Cellar is the spot where the Casillero del Diablo legend was born. This Legend began more than a century ago, when Don Melchor, the founder of Concha y Toro Winery, decided to preserve a selection of his vineyard's best wines. Upon seeing that some bottles were missing from his cellar, called casillero, he spread the rumour that none other than the devil dwelled within those vaulted walls. The little deceit worked like a charm, from then on strangers kept their distance and a name was born: Casillero del Diablo.
